True Friends

“A friend loves you all the time and a brother helps in time of trouble.”  –  Proverbs 17:17 (NCV)

We all have good friends, decent friends, best friends, friends we don’t see very often and people who we don’t know that well but we still call them friends. I’m sure we would all agree that in our friendships we really hope to be the real deal, to be genuine and authentic, to be a true friend to our mates at school or college.

But what does it mean to be a true friend? Well, the Bible’s definition here of a true friend is someone who ‘loves you all the time’ – this means you love your mates all the time, even when they annoy you, let you down or forget to text you back. Being this kind of friend isn’t always easy, in fact it’s often really hard, but in the life Jesus lived, He was this kind of friend to those around Him, He loved His disciples (His closest mates) even when they ran off and denied they even knew Him.

Cube Challenge:  Ask Jesus today to help you to be like Him by being a true friend to your mates at school/college, by showing them love even when they hurt or let you down and to always be there for them.

  1. Shelly says:

Friends are like the family we choose. They are the ones that love, support, encourage us and hold us accountable. May we all be a true friend to someone else by loving them with the love of Christ.
