Live it up

“I am in prison because I belong to the Lord. Therefore I urge you who have been chosen by God to live up to the life to which God called you”. (Eph 4:1 NCV)

Do you remember how at school, when there’d be a sports day or PE lesson how you’d have different teams picked for sport events. Have you ever been picked for the football or netball team – were you a star at rounders? Whatever the sport, game or event, I’m sure at some point in your life you can relate to having been picked to be on a team of some kind.

Well it’s kind of like this too with God. We’ve been chosen out from this world to be picked on the greatest team of all time, we’re called to be on God’s team; the most outstanding and elite team there is. We get to serve and be on the side of the King of all Kings, the head of all, wow!

Today’s verse says we should live up to the life that God is calling us to; it’s a call to be pure, to be light, to live different from the world around us, making a stand and shouting God.

However, the difference between God’s team and the teams we have been in before, is that we get chosen and accepted not based on how good we are, on how well we perform, but based on everything that Jesus did for us – so we get to come as we are and be accepted by God’s love by picking us for His team.

Even so, it is important that we position our hearts towards God, be disciplined and live in the fullness of everything God has for us.

Cube Challenge: Push yourself this week – dig deeper into God and prayer. Live up to the life God has for you. Why not be intentional about spending an extra 25 minutes every day this week reading the Bible, talking to God and worshiping Him – you will see the benefits!
