Controlled emotions

Samson then said to them, “This time I shall be blameless in regard to the Philistines when I do them harm.”  Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned the foxes tail to tail and put one torch in the middle between two tails.’ Judges 15v3-4

Have you ever been so mad that you decided to set 300 foxes on fire and use them to burn your enemy’s fields?

Probably not and hopefully you will never be that angry, but Samson was. This man was supposed to be a man of God but when he got emotional he did some stupid things. Because of his anger against the people he hated, other people got hurt. 300 foxes and his own friends and neighbours suffered because he was so angry and emotional.

Usually we think following our emotions gives us a quick fix, we think we will get a way of making ourselves feel better. People who live to please their emotions hurt other people. Because of one man’s anger two nations of people were hurt, along with animals and then finally even Samson hurt himself. Most people may not get into anger like Samson’s but has I think we all can agree, forgiving would be better and smarter than spending time and effort catching foxes. But although we don’t use foxes we do spend a long time thinking about how to hurt our enemies. The truth is WE will probably end up hurt and alone in the end like poor Sammy.

Cube Challenge: Today’s task is to learn to forgive, it is a tough lesson so as usual we will ask God for help. Pray that God will help you to forgive. Ask God for way of doing a nice thing for those who hurt us. Don’t be like Samson and react, be like Jesus and forgive.
