‘Hope delayed makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree on life ‘- Proverbs 13v12 (HCSB)
Do you feel sick when you read sitting in the back of car? Do you get easily motion sick?
Well you’ll know that feeling sick is not a nice feeling at all. Today’s verse says that when hope is delayed, it makes the heart sick. The Heart doesn’t mean a physical organ, pushing blood around your body, but means the core of who you are. Have you ever been so disappointed, let down, hurt, betrayed or let down in a big way? It’s a rubbish feeling isn’t it? It’s kind of like the very core of your being feeling sick, you just feel so discouraged and let down.
You may be able to relate to times when you’ve been let down by mates, parents or family members have let you down like this – you’ve expected people to act in certain way and they haven’t and really betrayed you in some way. You may also have had times when you’ve expected some big and important in your journey with God, but for whatever reason it hasn’t happened, and you feel hopeless.
God, on the other hand, wants wants to bring to life hope again, He wants to give you the strength to stand up strong and keep on truting God, to keep on loving and believing in people, this isn’t easy in your own ability, but you have to rely on God to give you that help.
