Shining stars

Do everything without grumbling or arguing,  so that you may become blameless and pure,  children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.” – Philippians 2v14-15 (NIV)

Have you ever been out on a winter’s night when the sky is clear and seen all the stars out shining really bright?

It’s so beautiful to look on all the flashing stars across the night sky, isn’t it? Many people will actually make it their living to observe the nature and beautiful of these stars and examine them from telescopes.

Think of the light of these beautiful, flickering stars in comparison to the blackness of the night sky, there’s a big difference, isn’t there?

Well, that’s what this verse is getting at today. It says that in this world of darkness, we are called as God’s loved children to aim to live to a higher standard than the world, and by doing so, we shine the light of Christ into the darkness that surrounds us.

Today’s verse says we can do this by doing everything without grumbling or arguing. This is no small task to do, and isn’t always easy, but it is what the Lord wants us to do. By living like this we let our light shine, we set a different standard.

This means that the next time your parents ask you to do something you don’t want to do, when your teacher or lecturer gives you extra coursework the natural thing would be to complain about them, argue with them even, say things behind their back, but God wants us to honour them and honour Him, by choosing not to moan, grumble, argue or complain. Choose to be different, make a stand, carry the attitude of Christ and let your light shine!!!

Cube Challenge: Throughout this week be intentional about honouring people and speaking well of them – ask God to help you when this gets tough. Make sure you have a Christ like attitude this week and be careful not to have a grumbling or complaining attitude wherever you go and in whatever you do this week. Shine like a star! Shine Christ!!
