“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.” – Proverbs 1:8-9 NIV
Sometimes we can go through life and want to do our own thing.
God puts people in our life that can help us, that can speak wisdom into our life, and it can be easy to copy the world and decide to reject these instructions, help and teaching that others give.
God designed the family. God wants us to enjoy family life and He puts us under the leadership of our parents. We may not always see things the way our parents do and we can want to rebel at times, but the truth is they know what is best for us in our situation, especially when they are parents that follow Jesus.
Today’s verse is highlighting exactly this; the importance of obeying our parents’ teaching and instruction. So be sure to be smart and listen to what your parents are saying – God has put them there to help you. Remember to listen up!
