From your past to God’s future

“Brothers and sisters, I know that I have not yet reached that goal, but there is one thing I always do. Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead” – Philippians 3v13 (NCV)

Which goals did you set for 2013? Did you achieve them all?

Maybe you haven’t thought about it, but you probably have (set goals) without realizing it. You might say to yourself, I want all my coursework completed by next week, I want to be married by the age of 25 or I want to have passed my driving test by this time next year. We all set goals in our lives of different things we really value that we want to do in life.

Well it can be the same in your journey with God too. You can set goals for the things that you want to achieve for God throughout your life.  But today’s verse makes it clear that to achieve the goal you have for God, you need to learn to not live in the past. We can often live so caught up by our past; it stops us from going forward. We can be eaten up by the guilt of past sins or mistakes or we can live with hurt or regret.

However, God wants us to move forward in Him, and to do that we can’t keep on living in the past all of the time. It important you get the massiveness of God’s forgiveness, the sheer depth of His love and hand over your worries, regrets, fears and guilt to Him and move forward  – straining toward what is ahead , towards the amazing future God has for you in 2014.

Cube Challenge:  Regardless of what you achieved (or didn’t achieve)  in 2013, 2014 is another year! Seek God, dream big for this year, leave regrets behind in 2013, and ask God to help you move forward in Him in this new year!!
