‘The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine’. 1 Samuel 17:37
Most of us can think of a time when we’ve been afraid or had to face a situation that scared us. Life comes with a lot of challenges and fear is one of those challenges all of us will face. Maybe it’s an upcoming exam that you’re afraid of failing or taking your first driving lesson that you’re not confident about booking. So how do you overcome fear?
In this verse David was persuading Saul to let him fight Goliath, so he told Saul of the past battles he had faced and how God had helped him through them. He wasn’t afraid of fighting Goliath, because he knew that if God had rescued him from a lion and a bear then he would rescue him from Goliath.
This verse shows us the value of remembering what God has done for us in the past. David didn’t look at the height or strength of Goliath or compare his own armour to Goliath’s armour; he looked straight to God and at what God had done for him. And in the end he defeated Goliath without any sword or armour because God was with him.
So maybe now you’re afraid of taking A-levels then try remembering how God got you through your GCSE’s instead of focusing on the Goliath, focus on God who is stronger than any situation you are facing.
1.Make a list of things God has done for you and thank him for each one
2. Pray about whatever situation you’re be afraid of, and trust that God will take you through it.
